New York and Vermont tour March 2017

Mary & Dan's NY & VT tour March 2017

Calvary Methodist Church

I gave three concerts during the tour.  The first was for the Mountain Dulcimer Music Festival in Albany, NY which received a standing ovation.  The second was for Brandon Music in Vermont, owned by The Divine Art Recordings Group - the British company, who distribute my CD albums.  My last concert was at the Sand Lake Centre for the Arts in Averill Park, NY as part of their 'Squire Jacob' concert series.  I was on good form and played to appreciative audiences.

For the mountain Dulcimer Music Festival I gave three dulcimer classes and a vocal techniques workshop, based on my popular UK weekend singing course.  The dulcimer classes were i) a gentle introduction to bagpipe tuning, ii) airs in DAA and iii) song accompaniment in DAA.  At the Sand Lake Centre for the Arts I also lead a longer vocal techniques workshop.  All my classes & workshops were very full and received very positive feedback.

cold climate, warm service
The average temperature during our stay was below 0°C and often lower than -10°C.  With few exceptions we received outstanding service, especially from hotel staff, who were keen to help in all sorts of ways.

One of the nicest aspects of any tour is seeing old friends and meeting new ones.  There are probably too many to mention too but we enjoyed meeting you all and we are most grateful for those friends who gave us hospitality, helping to make the tour viable.

On our outward flight from London to Boston, MA we were upgraded to business class and were very comfortable indeed.  In the US we had a Mazda 4x4 rental car, which came into its own on some un-asphalted roads in Vermont and did a good job of getting us and all our luggage around the 1000 mile circuit.  Our return flight was cancelled due to a snow blizzard, Storm Stella.  Fortunately, we managed to get seats on an earlier flight and were safely home a day early.

sight seeing
It was a fairly whistle-stop tour, moving on every couple of days.  We nonetheless saw historic Boston and Harvard Square, a little scenery near the Green Mountain of Vermont and the Berkshire hills of Massachusetts. I had my trusty little Fuji X-M1camera with me and took few quick photos along the way ...
